Step Back A Little

You can really see a painting when you step back a little bit and see it in proportion”: these words by Swami Kriyananda have been on my mind this month!

A couple years ago I came down with a bad flu. So I was in bed for a day or so feeling weak and awful. The next day, before I had recovered, a couple of young friends came over to visit and wanted to do art together. These girls are extremely light children, always positive and easy going. And more importantly, they are among my few friends who are always willing and eager to do art with me! 🙂 So I got out of bed and a few of us got together and painted for an hour or so creating freely without any expectation. At the end of that time I felt completely well!

Now there may be many reasons for feeling better, but I recently realized that doing something you love, with company that lifts you up can be so healing. The company we keep in life is super important, and also what we do while we are together is something we need to pay attention to! So I believe getting together with some art buddies and expressing positive colors and thoughts is a really huge aid to a joyful life!

Here in Pune we started an art club where a few of us get together to do something creative twice or thrice a month. Sometimes I wonder whether these sessions are actually “productive” or are just a fun time together. But in looking back at pictures taken in these sessions, I see the vibrant art, happy faces or the concentrated energy and mostly how joyful the environment is from all of us coming together. And I realize this has to be doing something good for us on a deeper level!

When we step away from a painting we get to see the entire picture. And similarly, when we step away from a situation, we get to see the bigger picture of what is going on and how all the little things in life do add up and make a big difference. We see how important all the tiny details are that join together to fulfill the divine plan!

Thank you for being a part of this journey and I leave you with this quote as something to keep in mind in the weeks to come:

“Enjoy the little things in life, for one day you’ll look back and realise they were the big things.”
